Aloha and welcome.
Mahalo nui loa for taking the time to read about my practice, Pumehana Psychology LLC. If you’re struggling in your relationships or with your sexual orientation or gender identity, working with me is likely to be a good fit. Pumehana means "warm hearted" in Hawaiian, which is the type of therapist I strive to be with my clients. Being born and raised on O'ahu, I am all too familiar with the stigma placed upon seeking help in many communities and am ready to greet you with the warm and accepting stance you deserve. I specialize in seeing LGBTQ+/MVPFAFF+ clients and am licensed to serve across the Hawaiian Islands via telehealth.
I graduated with my Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in 2020 and completed my residency in LGBTQ+ Health at Veterans Affairs Pacific Islands Health Care System in 2021. I still work at VA Pacific Islands as a triage psychologist and so will not be able to see Veterans through my private practice.
I enjoy working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, infertility, life transitions, and LGBTQ+ topics. I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma symptoms and have received specialized training in Transgender-Affirmative Narrative Exposure Therapy (TA-NET). My approach stems from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a person-centered foundation. I balance meeting clients where they are with providing tools for the journey ahead.
At this time, I am not taking in person appointments and see clients solely using telehealth. I specialize in adult individuals and do not provide child/adolescent, couples, or family therapy. I take Aetna and Kaiser insurances. If you have a different insurance, 53-minute sessions are $225 + tax and superbills are available on request so that you can submit to your insurance at a non-participating provider rate of reimbursement.
Taking the first step in asking for help can be daunting. Prioritizing your mental health is one of the most important things you can do in this life. If you think we could be a good fit, please email or call and we can set up a 15-minute free phone consultation to explore working together. I look forward to hearing from you.
